Pile of dishonesty charges comes to court

A Christchurch man has been granted interim name suppression on 167 dishonesty charges.

The 53-year-old beneficiary faced the thick pile of charges when he appeared at the Christchurch District Court this week.

The charges allege that he dishonestly used carer support claim forms to obtain funding for personal care and household management.

Each of the charges applies to a claim which covered about a week from 2001 to 2007. Several people are named as being intended recipients of the home care.

The value of the claims is not referred to on the charges, which have been brought by the Ministry of Health.

The man was remanded at large to February 25 without plea.
