Teen remanded on assault charge
A 19-year-old youth from the Christchurch suburb of Strowan has been remanded on an assault charge after a weekend bashing when partying teenagers clashed in Merivale.
Stephan Viola faces a charge of assaulting another youth who police say was hospitalised with head injuries after the confrontation when about 50 youths gathered at McDonalds Merivale early on Sunday.
Viola was remanded on bail by a Christchurch District Court registrar for three weeks to February 26, to obtain legal advice. No plea has been entered.
