Youth faces pellet gun charges

A registrar’s remand was granted to a Northcote teenager charged with firing an airgun to frighten people and endanger property.

Charlie Leonard William Osborne was remanded on bail to February 23, without plea, and without an appearance before a judge.

The 17-year-old labourer was arrested and charged after shots were fired at a person,  and at a bus on Thursday.

Osborne is charged with firing an airgun in Colombo Street — Christchurch’s main street — with intent to frighten, and firing it in Papanui to endanger property.

It is understood a pellet gun was used to smash the windows of a bus carrying school children as it drove along Sawyers Arms Road in the later incident.

It is believed a cyclist was the target of the first incident.

A second man who was driving the car from which shots were allegedly fired, was also arrested but his remand details are unknown.

Osborne also faces a charge of possession of cannabis, four days after the shooting incident.
